We are a Green Key Hostel and Hotel
Aarhus Hostel and Hotel has been rewarded with the Green Key. Green Key is an international ecolabel for establishments within the tourism industry. The label was founded in Denmark and is now represented in more than 25 countries. When you have the Green Key label it means that you are making an extra effort for the environment.

At Aarhus Hostel and Hotel we are largely self-sufficient in our daily operations when it comes to electricity thanks to our many solar cells. We have set up charging stations for private electric cars. We are also a GreenMobility hotspot, so you can park, charge and pick up your GreenMobility electric car right here with us. On our notice boards we have information about both busses and bike rentals in the area.
We collect our rainwater and use it in our toilets and washing machines. The rainwater is also soft and free of limestone, so less detergent is needed.
We primarily use eco-labeled cleaning products and use correct dosage, and we avoid using toxic chemicals to fight weeds. We sort our waste, aspire to buy organic products and avoid food waste as much as possible. We do not use products made from disposable plastic and serve tap water instead of bottled water.
At Aarhus Hostel and Hotel our linen is Oeko-tex linen, and we use the laundry company Neptun who are focusing on wasting less water and on eco-friendly washing chemistry. We have energy saving lighting and have installed water saving devices on taps and showers.
We actively look for good solutions to minimize our energy consumption. We set criteria for future suppliers and business partners. We inform our employees about electricity, water and heat savings.

UN 17 SDGs
We must all make an effort and take responsibility for acting and contributing to sustainable development. For us at Aarhus Hostel, this means that we work purposefully on how we can contribute. We have worked with the UN 17 global goals as a tool and mapped out where we can create a positive change.
The UN’s 17 global goals for sustainable development constitute 17 overall goals with 169 sub-goals. It is not only states that have to take up the task, but also in our daily lives and companies – both large and small.
In our work with sustainability, we cannot do it alone – that is why we involve both our employees and guests in our environmental work to get more insight on how we can improve.
Below you can read about how we contribute to the goals and what initiatives we work with.

Green Circular Transition
At the beginning of 2022, we participated in the Green Circular Transition. During the process, we received advice from RethinkEvent, which gave us insight into how we could restructure and rethink the business model in a circular direction. Through meetings, data collection and workshops, we worked with, among other things, waste sorting and tested different solutions that are meaningful for both employees and guests.
Green Circular Transition is a national project with a broad focus across industries on developing and implementing green and circular business models in small and medium-sized Danish companies. The purpose of the project is to help companies develop their business in a more sustainable and circular direction through either individual advice, collective courses or short intensive courses.
